Outside Playground
for Recovering Paediatric Surgery Patients

Play. recover.
Recovering from surgery can be challenging for young patients, and access to outdoor play is essential for their well-being.
Thanks to generous partnerships, we created a safe, well-equipped, and easily accessible playground designed specifically for children in recovery.
Features of the Playground
Direct access from the Paediatric Surgical Ward.
Astro-turf surface for low maintenance and year-round usability.
Secure fencing for safety and peace of mind.
Playground equipment, including a jungle gym and a bike/scooter track.
Covered play area for use in all weather conditions.
History of the Project
Before this transformation, the hospital’s outdoor play area was in poor condition—difficult to access, unfenced, and lacking proper equipment.
Children had limited opportunities to play outside during recovery, adding to their stress.
With the generous support of the Spur Foundation and Surgeons for Little Lives, we were able to bring this project to life, giving young patients a safe space to heal and regain their strength.
Additionally, 9TH BIT Consulting (PTY) LTD donated four sets of concrete benches, providing seating for children and their families.
