“Yesterday I completed the Virgin Active Ride Joburg (97km road race) – the world’s second-largest timed cycle race (along with 20 000 cyclists). I rode for a purpose – Surgeons for Little Lives.
My daughter is a doctor doing her internship at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital (aka Bara) – one of the largest hospitals in the world. This is where Surgeons for Little Lives is based. She is so impressed (and so am I) with the amazing work that they do to “fill the gap”.
Surgeons for Little Lives is uplifting the lives of children needing life changing surgery. It is a registered non-profit organisation, with a powerful commitment to saving the lives of sick children. They are making it possible for very sick children and their families to receive a standard of care that matches the standard of skill of their surgeons.
Surgeons for Little Lives is run by a small group of Paediatric Surgeons, and ordinary people, passionate about uplifting the lives of less fortunate children needing life changing surgery. It was started with the overriding objective of raising the level of care given to patients in the Paediatric Surgery wards in state hospitals, in the Greater Gauteng area, to world class standards.
Without doubt the need for funding is there biggest ongoing concern.
