Burn Awareness Week 2026

This week marks Burn Awareness Week, observed from 7 May 2026, a time dedicated to raising awareness around burn prevention, education, and the importance of protecting vulnerable children and families.

As Burn Awareness Week comes to a close, we reflect on the meaningful work done on the ground by our Health Promoters, Sr Deborah and Sr Thuli, who joined the hospital team to engage directly with the community.

In a busy, high-traffic space where awareness matters most, they created opportunities for real conversations around burn prevention. These moments helped make important safety messages more accessible, visible, and practical for the people who need them.

They were joined by expressive artist Janine Rech and three SFLL volunteers, who brought creativity, warmth, and compassion into the experience. Together, they helped transform awareness from information into connection.

Because awareness does not happen in isolation.

It happens through shared conversations, community presence, and the willingness to meet people where they are. It happens when prevention is made personal, when knowledge is shared with care, and when communities come together to protect children.

Burn prevention begins with awareness, but it grows through moments like these.

Together, in community, we can help create safer environments for children and families.
