I recently completed my job shadowing experience on the 14th and 18th of May 2026.
Over the two days, I had the privilege of shadowing two different surgeons, and the experience was both insightful and inspiring.
On my first day, I spent seven hours in theatre observing procedures and gaining a realistic understanding of what a career in paediatric surgery would involve. It was an eye-opening experience that strengthened my interest in the medical field.
On the 18th of May, I spent the day in Ward 32, where I was warmly welcomed by both the nurses and doctors. Everyone was incredibly kind, supportive, and willing to share their knowledge and experiences with me. I especially appreciated how the doctors took the time to ask about my future goals and provide advice on what I should focus on when applying for medical studies.
Being able to participate in ward rounds and observe interactions with different paediatric patients gave me valuable insight into the importance of teamwork, compassion, and patient care within the hospital environment.
Overall, this experience was truly unforgettable, and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity. It has motivated me even more to pursue a future in medicine, and I would gladly take part in a similar experience again.
