I ensure that every mother/ father and /Guardian coming to our sleeping facility is cared for in the best way I can. I help them with their needs like toiletries, clothing and making sure that their meals arrive on time and allocated accordingly. I sometimes sit with them and ask how their babies/ children are recovering and give emotional support.

Play Area

At ward 32 we have a library (filled with toys, there’s a tv, books) and outside play (jungle gym, bikes etc)

I take all the children who are able to get out of bed after recovering from surgery or who are still going into surgery to come and do some arts and crafts, painting, reading, writing, play with toys and to just relax and watch tv. All this is dependent on age. Babies play with soft toys and toddlers with blocks or cars etc and they sit on a mat while the older ones sit on chairs and do their work.

Sometimes we go outside, to play in the jungle gym, exercise, use bikes or bicycles, scooter, soccer or hands ball.

I draw my inspiration from my kids. I wake up every morning and I try my best to do my best at my job, so that they could have what I didn’t have as a child.

My wish for South Africa is that there could be a sleepover facility in most of not all government hospitals. I’ve seen that it’s a difficult thing for your child to get sick and be admitted for weeks and you don’t have a proper place to sleep. Also for play facilities to be there in every ward where children can play and be able to forget a bit about their pain.
